New year, new storage and organizing goals, right?

In this house, we have all manner of random things floating around our family room.

You might identify?

And when I say floating around, I mean underfoot.

Little pieces from board games and puzzles to miniature doll shoes and accessories that although small, pack an amazingly lethal punch when you walk over them with bare feet.

Ouch! Just like those Lego pieces that lurk, waiting for someone to lurch across them.

Anyway, you know what I’m talking about.

Easy Storage Solution

Our family room coffee table has an open shelf underneath, a place where where we’ve stacked all the kids’ puzzles and games, over the years.

Christmas holidays would come and go, and we’d add more games and puzzles to a pile that was beginning to look unruly, unkempt and un-everything.

But not so now!

Enter these cute rectangular canvas storage baskets.

What an organizational game-changer.

They’re collapsible, with handles on either side, and come in a variety of colors and sizes.

I went with the herringbone pattern in a large size.

Why didn’t I think of the basket solution before? I’m not sure why.

But it occurred to me after I recently painted the coffee table navy blue that I should put baskets underneath to hold all these unsightly games and puzzles.

So I took my own advice and got five of these durable baskets and I’m so happy I did.

Now they store all the puzzles and games with lots of space left over since they’re so deep.

Plus, they look good and really tidy up the open bottom shelf area of the coffee table.

Because they’re collapsible, they can be shoved into tight spaces. All you have to do it straighten them out again so they don’t look crumpled.

If you’re looking for a basket with rigid sides, these are not for you. I like the fact that they can be maneuvered in and out of the bottom shelf of the coffee table.

Herringbone Pattern

These storage bins’ black-and-white herringbone pattern mimics the black-and-white peel-and-stick wallpaper we used in the family room built-in shelves and also in the laptop/study area over in the kitchen nook.

This coffee table is another piece of furniture that’s lived many lives with its makeover a few years ago.

First it was dark brown.

Then I painted it white, using chalk paint.

And now it got another face lift with this navy blue paint.

We also painted one wall in the family room this color because I loved how it came out on the coffee table.

So no more tripping over small objects, including that dice piece atop the books in the photo above.

Oh no. We’re all about the de-clutter here!
